close your eyes and follow Christ

Recently, I have begun to trust and respect someone greatly. Though our friendship has been short, he has taught me a lot through his wisdom, and his friendship. One thing that he said to me, really caught my attention. I have no doubt in the world that it was a God thing. The conversation is a blur to me, but what caught my attention was when he said "close your eyes and follow Christ" and my quick reply was "that's so scary though". And it does seem VERY scary. But what he said than, really made me realize how strong this guy's faith is. He said "It looks scary, but is it?". We then moved on to another subject, but that stayed with me. We play all these crazy trust games, where we fall on people and stuff, but the ultimate test of trust is in Jesus. Do we truly trust him? Are we willing to close our eyes, and let him lead us? Yeah, it'll be dark, and sometimes, we will run into things, but only to protect us from running into worse. Sometimes when we run into these things, we think that Jesus is doing a bad job, but only because we cannot see what we did not run into. Are you willing to close your eyes and follow Christ? Are you willing, to take that first step. Hand everything over to him, and let him lead you? Yeah, it's going to be scary, and sometimes it'll hurt, but the prize in the end will be like none other.

The responce "is it really that scary?" is something to be careful with. Because it might be a stumbling point. It is scary to trust. And if we say it is, we are lying to ourselves. Mom's friend Mark Buchanan wrote a book called Your God is too Safe and it is a fantastic read! Dan has it right now, but sometimes I worry we think we have too safe of a God, or we make our God too safe. But he will lead us, and He will give us a fantastic life if we submit to those fears and follow Him!

I don't agree with you Laura. Now, do not get me wrong. I am NOT saying that God will lead us into a safe life. Because for goodness sakes, I think when we become Christians and become commited to Christ we choose the scariest life of all. But when you think about it, we are safe, safe in Jesus. No matter what happens, we could be tortured and brutally murdered, but we can be sure our final destination is with Jesus, which I believe makes it safe.

Abandonment is so hard. I think it is scary. Jonah agreed. I think it's one thing to pray to God and ask for things you want. But to give yourself over to His will...that's a scary thing. That's where "trust" comes in. And it's terrifying.

Exactly. Amy, I'm not saying that living a life trusting God is going to lead us to hell and that ultimately, in another life it isnt better, but it is much scarier initially to trust in Him. Dan made a fantastic point about Jonah. God is a thing to absolutely quake at the knees about. How many times have you seen the word "fear" come up in the bible when referring to God.

It is like Aslan in the Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe when Lucy asks if he is "quite safe?" and Mr Beaver says "Safe?! Of course he's not safe! But he's good!"
